I know you're joking about here and all but that's always something I've wondered about gamerscore... My only experience of it is SF4 on GFWL but am I to understand that it's a completely useless number (as in you can't buy things with it or anything) based almost entirely on how many games you have?

I mean obviously it's not because you're beating the battle poultry, but that aside, am I right?

hehe

yes, you are mostly correct - not based on number of games though, but the achievements you acquire in those games: achievements = gamer points.

some developers make getting their game achievements super easy; some have made them stupid difficult to get [perfect dark zero, quake 4]; other devs seem to *get it* so when you get an achievement you really feel a sense of accomplishment.

some achievements, like the l4d2 one where you need to hit a tank with a bile bomb, are really fun and funny to get. the best, for me at least, are achievements where the developers put real thought into how you get to/acquire an achievement and/or the achievement itself is clever: a play on words/the game/pop culture/whatever.

the worst [for me] are the 'get 10000 kills in ranked online games' category, etc - especially when no one plays those games online and/or the game itself really is not very fun. those kinds of achievements may as well be impossible/not even exist. it is hard enough to motivate yourself to try to find a 'ranked' game, let alone acquire those achievement types. =(

some gamer scores can be fairly impressive, in a 'oh wow, you got 42,000 gs in three years'-type way, but beyond that i doubt they will get you a discount at the grocery. =)

although you never know. tell the clerk about your gamer score next time and let us know how that works out for you. hehe =)

things like gamer scores, ps3 trophies, or q3/ql/hl2dm stats really mean nothing to me. except when those numbers/stats show me triumphing over the 'b477l3.p0ul7|2y' - which is ALWAYS. then those numbers are critical and they should and will be written in the 'nos vs w4r.ch1k3n annals' for all future generations to know of my - some say absolute - domination of the b477l3.p0ult|2y. even in tiddly winks. :o

*braawwwkkkk!!*

come get some! you son of a sea biscuit!

aeryn sun

*- the one achievement i think most impressive and would like to get is the dead space 'finish the game on impossible' one. getting that achievement would be a real accomplishment. =)

Ah right, well I've got 740 gamerscoremagingies from SF4 and the only other games I play with achievements are Valve games. I got all the spy achievements in TF2 from just playing ^_^

that can be one of the main problems with gamer scores and why they really do not mean very much. some games basically hand you achievements along the way - 50 points for making a character and/or starting the game. people use these types of games to pad their gamer scores; 'artificially inflating' them, if you will.

other games are on the opposite extreme, making their achievements incredibly difficult or not at all fun/worth pursuing. the 'get 1000 first place finishes in ranked online games' is just ridiculous - and the other two people playing that game online will likely agree.

it seems like the games released closer to the x360 launch are more guilty of this than later releases. i think it took a while for developers to understand what makes a good achievement, etc. some still have not figured it out.

a good rule of thumb for those devs would be: do not weight your achievements towards multiplayer. having a handful is usually fine/enough, but if you do have some mp achievements always assume that only three people max. will be playing your game online at any given time - after the first week of release, that is.

it really is fun though, when you get a difficult - but not overly so - achievement that is not exactly part of the normal play through. that does not mean 'find all the needles in all the haystacks' or 'get the maximum points from killing all the rats on the mainland' achievements are going to be good - usually quite the opposite.

in some ways, for people like me who are completionists - read: ocd - achievements can add a lot of value to games and 'pad' time spent playing. when it works, it is super fun. when it does not work, the game goes onto the shelves to languish. usually forever. =(

Is that warhawk's real tag?

I've been playing some arcade game lately called something like, Ultra Marble Blast.

It is a lot of fun. Also, I like how after I beat a level, I get to see how much better I did than sLater did, when he played the game Very Happy

PS: The last level is wicked hard.

no, he uses some other name, but he is not fooling anyone: no matter what fake alias he uses he is and always will be our little w4r.ch1ken. =)

brraaawwwwkkkkk!!!

i like that 'compare with friends who have played this game' thing too. i mostly use it as a gauge to see if a game is actually fun: the 'better the scores' or whatever metric is used for a given game. higher scores/more levels per friend/player, chances are the game is fun. =)

i liked the serious sam redo. not sure if it has co op. if it does that could be fun =) i am pretty sure it has deathmatch, tdm, etc.

xboxlive is pretty good for what it does. i do have a couple of issues with it, but overall it does what it does very well. i have rented a couple of movies and a bunch of tv shows through them - not sure i like the new 'zune marketplace' - likely will just take some time to adjust.

have been thinking of getting netflix just for the streaming/on demand movies. probably would not use the physical disks/mail service though. i know i would forget about a disk and would find it a year later. =(

does anyone use netflix movie/tv show streaming? if so, how is the quality? does it cache a bunch in advance? is it 'skippy'? are you using ethernet cable [router to x360] or wireless? if wireless, the old 'g' or the new spiffy 'n' adapter*?

*- **wild speculation and corporate conspiracy theory follows - read at own risk**
normally i do not buy into conspiracy theories, but ever since microsoft released that new 'n' adapter our x360 has had trouble at times keeping connection long enough to view an 'inside xbox' or any of the other videos - sometimes it works, but many times it gives a 'your connection timed out or blah blah blah'. =(

videos worked perfectly fine and the x360 itself said the connection was perfect for streaming video before that new adapter was released.

now it is really flaky. =(

i swear, i really do think there is some 'futzing' happening on microsoft's end. the ps3 and wii, which are right next to the x360 have absolutely no problems with connection. router has virtually clear line of site to the consoles - about 40-45 feet away. router is a 'linksys n ultra range plus' and x360 is using the older 'g' wireless adapter.

i want to believe. :o

**- now the prices have dropped on those 'ethernet over powerline' adapters i have been considering possibly using those again. the best 'fix' would be to just run a cable, and that is still an option. it just irritates me the wireless is so wonkie now. =(

yes,

and that is only about 1/3 of the total time you have spent under my complete and utter gaming domination. and, since you are on ch1k3n time, that ends up something like 56 of your ch1k3n years.

ouch. =(

that was about the time you crawled away with your feathers between your legs, yes?

COME GET SOME! YOU SMALLVILLE WATCHING SEABISCUIT!!

next you are going to tell us n3m got you hooked on 'the o.c.' and 'one tree hill'.

*rolls eyes ands sighs*

[[[TAUNT]]] i can lend you my gilmore girls disks when you move up to real shows, but sounds like that will not be for some time yet. /[[[TAUNT]]]

i would say 'i will try to take it easy on you', but, since you are NOWHERE to be found - no ch1k3n on x360, no ch1k3n on computer, no ch1k3n playing tiddley winks, i guess i cannot 'go easy on you' so next i see you it will be business as usual... [see pic below]

:o

*- and before you say it: yes, the pic is old, too: that does not make it any less relevant. :p
